Medical Director and Consultant Ophthalmologist Mr. Samer Hamada is an internationally recognized Consultant Ophthalmologist and a pioneer in advanced corneal, cataract, and refractive surgery techniques. With over 25 years of experience, he has earned a reputation for managing the most complex cases with precision, innovation, and compassion. As the Medical Director of London Cataract Centre, Mr. Hamada is dedicated to delivering exceptional patient care through advanced surgical expertise and personalised treatment plans.
Mr. Hamada’s extensive training includes prestigious fellowships in cornea, refractive surgery, and anterior segment procedures. His education spans some of the world’s leading institutions, and he is a Fellow of the Royal College of Ophthalmologists (FRCOphth), Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh (FRCSEd), and a Fellow of both the International Society of Refractive Surgery (ISRS) and the American Academy of Ophthalmology.
He previously served as Consultant Ophthalmic Surgeon and Clinical Lead for the Corneoplastic Unit and Eye Bank at the renowned Queen Victoria Hospital, where he transformed the service into a leading centre for corneal anterior segment surgery, oculoplastics, and glaucoma. He has since transitioned fully to private practice and is now the Founder and Medical Director of Eye Clinic London, where he continues to deliver advanced ophthalmic care with a focus on complex and innovative treatments.
As a specialist in advanced intraocular lenses, Mr. Hamada is adept at tailoring solutions to meet his patients’ unique vision goals. He has been at the forefront of introducing trifocal and extended depth-of-focus (EDOF) lenses, providing patients with exceptional clarity and minimal dependence on glasses. He is actively involved in shaping the future of ophthalmology through his roles as a faculty member at Canterbury Christ Church University (MCh Surgery – Ophthalmology), an examiner for the European Board of Ophthalmology (EBO), and the founder of the Cornea Club, a global platform for corneal specialists. His ongoing research includes innovations in presbyopia treatment, corneal neurotization, and dry eye disease, where he continues to push the boundaries of what’s possible in eye care.
